Sugarland fans have been anxiously awaiting new music from the country duo for years, and the wait will finally be over this Friday, August 9 with the release of their new four-song EP, There Goes The Neighborhood.
The duo, comprised of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, revealed the news to fans on Monday via social media. Without warning, they shared the comicbook-inspired EP art, with the caption “We’re back! New EP coming on Friday.”
According to a pre-sale, the project will include the tracks “There Goes The Neighborhood,” “Temporary Feeling,” “Georgia Is Yours,” and “Get Your Hopes Up.”https://www.instagram.com/p/C-S6q7avL4I/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fcountrynow.com&rp=%2Fsugarland-surprises-fans-with-new-ep-were-back%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A1034.5%2C%22ls%22%3A180.5%2C%22le%22%3A944.5999999940395%7D
Fans flocked to the comment section to share their excitement over the news.
“This is the best news I could have asked for today,” one fan wrote, while another shared, “Just when you are having a bad day Sugarland comes in for the clutch!!”
Another fan declared, “Maybe 2024 isn’t so bad after all.”
Sugarland was founded in 2002 and dominated the country music scene for several years. Together, Nettles and Bush released hit after hit, including “Baby Girl,” “Something More,” “Want To,” “Settlin’,” “Already Gone,” “Stay,” “Stuck Like Glue,” and more.
The duo’s last full-length record was Bigger, released in 2018. The following year, the duo announced that they had signed with Big Machine Records and planned to embark on the 25+ date There Goes The Neighborhood Tour in 2020.
“I am so proud to continue my association with Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Records,” Nettles shared in a statement at the time. “Scott has been there for Sugarland since our very first release, ‘Baby Girl,’ and continues to be our biggest champion when it comes to our records. We are so excited about all that’s ahead!”https://www.instagram.com/p/B8eJCKeDslG/embed/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fcountrynow.com&rp=%2Fsugarland-surprises-fans-with-new-ep-were-back%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A1%2C%22os%22%3A1053.800000011921%2C%22ls%22%3A180.5%2C%22le%22%3A944.5999999940395%7D
“Sugarland has always been a band with a mission to spread our message as far as we can into every corner of the world and I can imagine no better partner or bigger machine than Scott Borchetta and BMLG,” Bush added.
COVID ultimately sidelined the tour, and although the duo promised “fresh music” was on the way, nothing was released. Their last official single was “Babe” featuring Taylor Swift in 2018.
The news of Sugarland’s There Goes The Neighborhood EP comes months after they sent fans into an absolute frenzy when they reunited at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. Their long-awaited reunion was part of a performance with Little Big Town where the artists joined forces for a world premiere performance of their collaborative cover of the legendary Phil Collins’ hit, “Take Me Home.”
Following their performance on the CMT Music Awards stage, Sugarland and Little Big Town released a recording of the song to streaming platforms and announced plans to go on tour together later this year.
The Take Me Home Tour starts on October 24 in Greenville, SC, at Bon Secours Wellness Arena and runs through December 2024, with stops in Boston, Pittsburgh, Austin, and more. The tour concludes on December 13 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.
